Programs for Children of All Ages
Harbor Child Care began in 1973 by our founder Jill Rooney as a day care center with eight children in a home in Sea Cliff. Recognizing the need for safe and reliable child care for numerous families throughout Long Island, that home grew to six centers across Nassau County. We are now one of the largest not-for-profit organizations dedicated to full-day child care, early childhood, and school-age education on Long Island.

Our Scholarship Fund helps ease the financial burden on parents and ensures children thrive in a nurturing learning environment. Since 1973, we’ve supported 20,000+ children, building strong foundations for success. Research shows that investing $1 in early education returns $4–$16 to communities.
Over 50 Years of Childcare Experience
Harbor Child Care began in 1973 by our founder Jill Rooney as a day care center with eight children in a home in Sea Cliff. For over 50 years, Harbor Child Care has provided quality early childhood education and services in a safe and nurturing environment for over 20,000 young children. Our staff-to-child ratios are followed by the regulations of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
CURRICULUM
Preparing Children for Life Beyond Academics
Harbor Child Care implements the Creative Curriculum® for Infant, Toddlers and Twos, as well as for Preschool children. The Creative Curriculum® is based on developmentally appropriate principles, proven early childhood research, and play as the means for exploration and learning. Learning through play affords each child the opportunity to develop problem-solving skills, social skills, and creative expression.
The Creative Curriculum® uses a child-centered approach, while teachers and parents partner to support the child’s interests. Utilizing an investigative method to learning, this curriculum employs studies to promote children’s cognitive, physical, language, and social-emotional development. It integrates, science, math, social studies, art, and technology in each study which provides a holistic approach to learning. The curriculum’s daily schedule offers a consistent structure for the development of routines and rituals.
