Executive Office

Dr. Arnold B. Goldberg - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dr. Arnold Goldberg was appointed to the position of Executive Director of Harbor Child Care in July 2015. In this role Dr. Goldberg is the chief executive officer overseeing six centers, a staff of 300, approximately 1,000 students and a budget of over $10M annually.

Dr. Goldberg was the Senior Director of Human Resources for Harbor Child Care between December 2011 and July 2015. As the chief human resources officer his responsibilities included staffing, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, professional development, training and leadership development.

Prior to coming to Harbor Child Care Dr. Goldberg worked in public schools in the roles of teacher and coach, principal, director, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and human resources and 10 years as a superintendent of schools.

In addition Dr. Goldberg has been an adjunct professor of educational administration for over 30 years and currently teaches at Stony Brook University.

Dr. Goldberg holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from American University, a Masters degree in Educational Administration from American University, a Doctorate in Leadership, Human Resources and Curriculum from George Washington University, and a post-doctorate Human Resources Studies Certificate from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Nick Katos - CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO)

Nick Katos is our CFO and has been with Harbor Child Care since September 2010.  Nick has a strong background in Accounting, Finance and Business Management.  Nick has a resume dating 35 years which include financial roles with the Walt Disney Company and with Sony Music. Nick holds his Bachelor of Business Administration with Pace University and manages all company financials.  He has a staff of Business Managers which are responsible for their respective centers.  Any questions that cannot be answered by the Business Managers, will be forwarded to Nick.  Along with his financial role, Nick is also very much involved with Operations, IT and program solutions.











Florence Barbour - DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - EXECUTIVE OFFICE

My name is Florence Barbour. I am the Director Of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development. Prior to this position, I was the Director of Harbor Child Care at the RXR Plaza for 8 years. In my current position I am responsible for the implementation of our educational curriculum across all 6 Harbor centers and the ongoing professional development of all teachers. I have over 20 years’ experience in the early childhood education field, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. I possess a Master’s degree in Psychology from Adelphi University, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a School Building Leader (SBL) certification from Baruch College.

Deanna Cinelli - Executive Assistant

My name is Deanna Cinelli. I have been the Executive Assistant for the Executive Offices of Harbor Child Care for 12+ years. The office of the Executive Director is known and assessed by many factors. My main duties include the drafting of correspondence, calendar maintenance of meetings, a smooth interface with the Executive Team and Center Directors, and as liaison to the Board of Directors. I also coordinate the Harbor Adopt a Family program during the November/December holiday season and respond with the Executive Director to United Way of LI on various initiatives throughout the fiscal year. Previously I worked as Senior Administrative Associate for a non-profit organization known as the Conference Board. I possess an MBA from New York Institute of Technology, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Queens College.

Maria Izzo - DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

My name is Maria Izzo and I am the Director of Human Resources. I have been employed with Harbor since 2006 and was the Assistant Center Director at the Sea Cliff location for many years before joining the executive team. Currently, my responsibilities include overseeing employee benefits, recruitment, employee relations and performance management. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Hofstra University and attended Queens College for my Master’s in Education.

Jagruti Patel - Director of business

I am, Jagruti Patel, lovingly known as JJ around Harbor. I am the Director of Business & have been working with Harbor for about 5 years. I first started working in the HR office on a part time basis, along with helping at all centers as need be, before being moved permanently to the Business Office to work full time reporting to Nick Katos, our CFO. Together, we handle payroll, billing, vendors, payments and any financial related work. I have Bachelors in Computer Engineering from India and a Master’s in Business Management. My career was mainly in IT for over 10 years before I gave it all up to raise my daughter. Upon return to the working sector, I was fortunate to have found employment with Harbor Child Care and consider it to be “my home away from home”.

Michele Russell - SCHOOL AGE DIRECTOR

My name is Michele Russell.  I have been working at Harbor Child Care for 13 years. I am the director of the School Age Program for all of our Harbor centers. I plan all activities for our summer camp and before/after school programs. I help work on the Harbor Facebook page as well. In May 2016 I will have my BA in Professional Communications from SUNY Farmingdale.

Carla Hall - DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES

My name is Carla Hall. I am the Director of Health Services for Harbor Child Care. I have been working for Harbor Child Care for the past 12 years. My responsibilities include maintaining the health and safety of the children and staff members, administering medication and overseeing the health care team. I attended Medical Assisting school and after graduating I managed a Pediatric practice for 20 years.

Roshan Kasmally - DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION & FACILITIES

I am the Director of Transportation and Facilities for Harbor Child Care.  I have been with Harbor for the past 15+ years.  My current responsibilities include the maintenance of Harbor’s fleet, making sure that all of our buses are in good working condition in order to pass DOT inspections, and the supervision of Harbor’s bus driver staff. 

Our drivers must be in good physical health and have a CDL drivers permit. I also work with all Harbor Center Directors in making sure that our facilities provide a clean and safe environment for all Harbor children, staff, parents and guests.

Chris Smith - Director of Food Services

My name is Christopher Smith. I am the Director of Food Services for Harbor Child Care. I have been employed with Harbor Child care for 8 years. Previously I was a school age teacher, music teacher, and for the last 3 years I have worked in the kitchen as both an assistant cook and a head cook.

Currently my responsibilities include overseeing all operations within the food service program while adhering to CACFP & OCFS guidelines.  I am also responsible for making sure all of our kitchen facilities meet and uphold the standards and codes of New York State nutrition and cleanliness. 

Glen Cove

Noelia Cruz - CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Noelia Cruz. I am the Director of our Glen Cove location. I have been working with Harbor Child Care for 10 years. I have been providing quality care to all ages, ensuring health and safety of all the children. I make sure that every day these children receive love, affection, security and a daily learning experience. I maintain up to date records for children and staff. I manage enrollment, communicate with families and much more. I currently have my Child Development Associates Credential and am enrolled at Empire State College working towards my Bachelors in Early Childhood.

Erica Giddens - Assistant Center Director

My name is Erica Giddens. I am the Assistant Director of Harbor Child Care of Glen Cove. Prior to this I have 17 years of experience in the Early Childhood Education Field. My current job responsibility is to assist the Center Director with all the daily operations of the center. I am very passionate about the development of the children. I want to provide the children with a safe, healthy, loving environment to learn and grow.

Herricks

Smita Daniel - CENTER DIRECTOR

As the Center Director of the Herrick’s location, my main responsibility is to ensure that each child is given the best possible care in terms of being treated with respect, love and helped to fully develop. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing the Staff and Center and maintaining positive relationships with families. My Journey at Harbor began as a substitute teacher for all age groups then a part-time assistant and a head teacher before I moved into administration as an assistant center director and currently I am the Center Director.  I have a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and also in Early Education (General education and Special education).

Amy Sheridan - ASSISTANT CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Amy Sheridan and I am the new Assistant Center Director and the coordinator of the Pre-k /UPK programs at Harbor Child Care at the Herricks location. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University and am licensed in New York State. I began my journey in Early Childhood Education in 2009. I started as an assistant teacher and was then promoted to head teacher in a preschool program in Commack. I am thrilled to now be a part of the Harbor Child Care Family working with the children and their families to provide the best possible preschool experience. I work closely with the Center Director on the day to day operations as well as directly with the teachers in the classrooms. Providing a safe, loving and nurturing environment for children in order to promote growth and learning has always been my passion. I look forward to being a part of your children’s early childhood experience and creating memories that last a lifetime!

Christine Giardino - ASSISTANT CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Christine Giardino. I have been with Harbor Child care for 5 years. I started out as an assistant teacher, was promoted to head teacher and am now the Assistant Director in charge of the infant and toddler program. I work closely with our center Director to help and ensure that our infant and toddler program runs efficiently in a safe, healthy and happy learning environment. I have worked closely with children in different capacities for over 20 years and I find it both a privilege and an honor to be a part of so many children and their families’ lives.

I attended Manhattanville College as well as St. John’s University. I currently hold a CDA credential in Early Childhood.

RXR Plaza

Mary Prato - CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Mary Prato and I am the Center Director at Harbor Child Care at the RXR Plaza. I have been employed at Harbor Child care for over ten years, starting as an Assistant Teacher in a preschool class. My other positions include being a Universal Preschool Teacher for three years, as well and an Assistant Director for four years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art and a Master's Degree in Art Education. Having a part of so many children's lives is an honor, and I hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

Anniina Macaluso - ASSISTANT CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Anniina Macaluso.  I am the Assistant Director at Harbor Child Care at the RXR Plaza. My current job responsibilities consist of supporting the Director with the goals and vision she has for the center and providing teachers with tools and knowledge about how to implement an age-appropriate and educationally rich curriculum that will promote a life time of learning.

I’ve been in the early childhood field for over 13 years and I have experience as a preschool teacher, an assistant director and as a center director as well. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood at Empire State College.

Mike Katos - BUSINESS MANAGER

My name is Michael Katos and I am the Business Manager at our Hempstead and Uniondale centers.  I am in charge of all business functions in those centers.  I am experienced in all areas of accounting and business management.  I have an Associate’s degree in Occupational Studies from Sanford Brown Institute.

Hempstead

Marilyn Rodriguez - CENTER DIRECTOR

I am currently the center director of the Hempstead location. I have worked with children from ages birth to 15 years old for over 10 years. I have vast classroom experience and have been in administration for close to three years. I have a Bachelor’s of Science from St. Johns University. I am working towards a Masters of Science in Bilingual Childhood Special Education in Inclusive Settings.

Sheila Daniel - ASSISTANT CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Sheila Daniel. I am currently the Assistant Center Director at Hempstead.  I provide support to the Director and staff members at Hempstead, as well as provide service to all of our students and parents.  I hold a Master Degree in Early Childhood Education and have served in this field for the past 9 years.  I have worked as a Teaching Assistant, Head Teacher, Educational Director, and now Assistant Director; and working in this field continues to provide my life with the sole purpose of teaching the young minds of our future world.

Willis Avenue-Mineola

Lisa Virzera - CENTER DIRECTOR

Lisa Virzera joined Harbor Child Care in 2009 and was recently promoted to Willis Avenue Center Director in May 2017. She started with Harbor Child Care as a Head Toddler Teacher, and was promoted to Administration in 2013. She holds a B.S. in Childhood Education from SUNY Old Westbury, and a M.S. in Early Childhood Education from Queens College.  With her understanding of child development she is responsible for six infant classrooms and five toddler classrooms at Willis Avenue-Mineola.  Her responsibilities includes to ensure full student enrollment for the infant and toddler classrooms, approves educational plans from all infant and toddler rooms, enforcing New York State regulations to approximately 100 students and 50 teachers on a regularly basis.

Ami Parikh- BUSINESS MANAGER

My name is Ami Parikh; I am the Business Manager at Willis Ave., Mineola.  Prior to taking a break from the corporate world to raise my two boys, I worked at Deutsche Bank for almost 8 years and have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Pace University.  I joined Harbor as an assistant teacher 7 months ago and I am delighted to have this opportunity and use my experience and education to assist all the children’s families here.

Alicia Harnandan - ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

My name is Alicia Harnandan and I am the Assistant Director and coordinator of the Pre-K/UPK programs at Harbor Child Care at our Mineola location. I have a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education Birth-2nd from Touro College.  I also graduated from Queens College and have an undergraduate degree in Child Development and Sociology.  I began teaching in 2009 working as a Teacher Assistant, Head Teacher in the Preschool/Pre-K classrooms. I also have experience working as a Special Education Preschool Teacher. I recently transitioned into Administration working as an Assistant Director. I work closely with the Center Director to help with assisting in all of the Center’s daily operations. 

Manhasset

Kristen Beckmann - CENTER DIRECTOR

My name is Kristen Beckmann. I am the Director at our Manhasset Site.  I’ve been employed with Harbor Childcare for 6 years.  Currently, my responsibilities are to oversee the Infant and Toddler program and to ensure the best possible care and development in our program.  I attended Nassau Community College and Briarcliff College.  I hold a CDA credential in Early Childhood.
